Quantum Information
Technology Norway

A two-day workshop dedicated to the higher levels of the technology stack in quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum-secure communication, and the interplay between quantum and AI

Registration is now open

The QIT Norway event

Bringing a carefully curated collection of compact, to-the-point presentations about quantum sensing, quantum communication, quantum computing and the interplay between artificial intelligence and quantum technology, the QIT Norway event is designed to excel this discussion further.

The event will take place at Simula Research Laboratory in downtown Oslo, with an upper limit of 100 participants (in-person only).

The background

In November 2022, the QCNorway workshop gathered 180 participants. This event brought the discussion of a future Norwegian Quantum Strategy into the public space through a series of carefully selected presentations from research, industry and public governance across Europe, with emphasis on the Nordic region. The discussions in that workshop, and the following reflections on lessons learned, led to the publication of the QCNorway Position Paper. This paper contains an assessment of Norway’s position in the international quantum landscape, the country’s potential for strengthening its efforts and international position, as well as concrete recommendations for achieving this. While the QCNorway paper was phrased in the light of quantum computing, its content is overlapping with the needs for Norwegian advancement in quantum sensing and quantum communication. These three areas combined constitute the larger topic that we refer to as Quantum Information Technology.

The Norwegian quantum debate

A lot has changed since 2022. The Norwegian discussion about quantum technology has recently propelled out of the research community and is now increasingly present in the public debate, including the parlamentarian discourse. Starting this year (2025), dedicated Norwegian funding for quantum technology research has been allocated and will be invested through competitive calls issued by the Research Council of Norway over the next decade. While the funds allocated for this purpose are still very modest compared to the investments made internationally, this new priority can be optimistically interpreted as the start of something potentially bigger. The fundamental problem, however, is still present: Norway needs a national quantum strategy. The QITNorway workshop is one more step pushing in this direction.
